Leadership and Innovation

Students are innovative, ethical, problem-solvers able to lead and manage through communication, collaboration, and reflection.

  • a. Students are able to evaluate critically, reflect, and problem-solve individually as well as collaboratively.

To accompany a research proposal I, along with a group of fellow students, designed a presentation summarizing our research goals. As this acted as our final draft, we had to incorporate improvements and problem-solve issues found during the course of the semester.

  • b. Students demonstrate effective communication skills.

I developed a series of behavioral and knowledge-based interview questions for a hypothetical hiring scenario. The questions aligned with the given job posting and analyzed a candidate’s skillset in a communicative and inviting fashion.

  • c. Students participate in professional and community engagement activities in the field.

While working as a library specialist, one of my responsibilities was to repair damaged books. Through this, I learned archival preservation techniques and communicated with other library professionals through workshops and professional development opportunities.

  • d. Students demonstrate leadership skills and innovation in a diverse and global environment.

As part of my role as a library specialist, I took part in the hiring process for student assistants. I interviewed candidates and helped make the final decision on who to hire. This task gave me real-world experience in the field and allow me to progress my leadership skills.
